FFAC Recap: Week 1 - Shenanigans
And we are off!
1st week is in and most games weren't really all that close. Partly due to the NFL becoming an emergency room, and partly from some pretty wild week 1 games. It'll be interesting to see which performances were one and done and which players are in it for the long haul.
SO, because of all the health madness, the waiver wire is a POPPIN. We'll see when the trades start coming through. REMINDER THERE WERE NO VOTES ON TRADE REVIEW RULE CHANGE, so if y'all really want to change from League Voting to Commissioner review, make that happen ASAP, I'm putting my foot down and deciding that once the first trade happens, that's it, rule is locked in. So...vote/talk about it ASAP.
So let's go ahead and get started with this weeks blowout game, as Cody explodes for 141 points over Ryan's underwhelming 90. Cody had a hell of a week, with SIX players on his lineup putting up at least 20 points. Ryan also had pretty tough performances across the board, which pretty much tells the story not only in fantasy across the board this week, but in the real games as well. You either ate well, or were left with scraps.
As for our closest match of the week, Fireball defeated Ben by just over 5 points this week. This is a particularly embarrassing & difficult loss for Ben, because in classic Fireball week 1 fashion, he got the win even without a Kicker in his starting lineup (reminder that this technically counts as a strike to the invalid lineup rule), although got the win this time around. HOWEVER, Ben was JUUUUST under the avg score this week, so it was a toss up either way, Ben. Fireball, well, the defending champ can continue to be smug about his strategies.
Stefan defeats Jack pretty handily, 113-98, despite it being Cory Davis time (with his amazing 0 points). David Johnson looked a bit closer to top 3 RB form, but was helped immensely by that 55 yd TD catch. Jack's team, however, is a bit of a mess, a bit top half heavy but 5 of his players scored 5 points or fewer. Jack beat me to a couple waiver players this week but I suppose that's why that waiver rule is fair. We'll see if Jack can bounce back and Stefan can remain consistent.
Shelby got the win over Zach, and scored pretty much exactly her projected score (111.34) with 111.40. Shelby is currently one of 2 teams in this league that doesn't have any of their favorite teams players on their roster (Stefan being the other). Not...super relevant but idk something I just happened to notice here. Anyways, Shelby has the most roster moves by far to this point, so the tinkering seems to have worked this week. Zach put up the 2nd lowest score so we'll see how he bounces back.
League 2 Champ Adam beat Jay 127-109. Particularly tough for Jay, as Ekeler was left on his bench with 36.4 points which would have given him the win if swapped for Gurley but, it be like that. Adam benefited from a 31 point performance by Watson, but with Bell, JuJu, & Olsen not looking super great for this week, he might be in a bit of trouble.
And finally, I beat MJ 137-109 on the backs of some monster performances by Watkins (42) and CMC (37). I will self admit that my roster scores were very top heavy as only 3/9 of my players scored over their projections, but pretty accurate for most of us last week. MJ had 4/9 over projections for comparison. MJ is hurting quite a bit at RB so not looking great out of the gate for our league accountant.
OH and real quick, since we're doing League Pick'em this season, I just wanted to point out that Jay incorrectly picked all 6 matches last week. So pretty much just pick the opposite of who Jay picks and you're set.
Margin of Victory: 22.67
Largest Blowout: 51.52 (Cody)
Closest Win: 5.48 (Fireball)
Highest Total: 141.62 (Cody)
Lowest Total: 90.1 (Zach)
Best Performance: 42.3 (Sammy Watkins, Danny)
Danny v Zach: +2.05 Danny
MJ v Jay: +10.13 Jay
Jack v Ryan: +3.47 Jack
Stefan v Fireball: +8.68 Stefan
Shelby v Adam: +1.75 Adam
Cody v Ben: +4.16 Cody
I'm rolling with myself, Jay, Ryan, Stefan, Shelby, Cody. Cody looks to be making me eat my own words but, hey, good for you man.
PODCAST WILL RETURN NEXT WEEK.

RECAP
Fun fact, match-up results were pretty much fair across the board. Meaning, that the only losing team that would have benefited from a better match up against week 1 winners is Ben, who would've beat Shelby. Otherwise, all winners would have beat all the losing teams regardless. I doubt this will continue to hold. This is marked by the avg margin of victory being nearly 23 points. So let's go ahead and get started with this weeks blowout game, as Cody explodes for 141 points over Ryan's underwhelming 90.
